Comair could’ve been saved from liquidation - expert
An aviation expert believes Comair's business rescue practitioners should have done more to try and save the company from liquidation.
Comair's business rescue practitioners lodged a court application on Thursday to convert the business rescue proceedings into liquidation proceedings.
The company, which operates Kulula.com and local British Airways flights, grounded its planes on 1 June due to a lack of funding.
It has been under business rescue since 2020 due to its inability to repay debts.
Last week, the company’s business rescue practitioners said it is in the process of raising the necessary capital to resume flights.
Aviation expert Phuthego Mojapele says many employees and aviation professionals will be out in the cold due to the decision.
"Many employees and aviation professionals within the industry will be out in the cold with no job opportunities. We are now sitting with a good four airlines on the ground that have absolutely no opportunity to continue SA Express, Mango, Comair under Kulula and British Airways they are all on the ground."
