Porcupine faces off with a pride of lions - and wins
Updated | By The Workzone with Barney Simon
In the wild, it is not always the larger animals that have the upper hand. Read on to see how this wily porcupine survived in the face of danger.
On a night drive in the Lower Sabie region of the Kruger National Park, Hennie Bekker (Director at Private Kruger Safaris) did not expect to see too much activity from the game.
Just when it started to look like a jackal would be the most exciting attraction of the night, Hennie tells LatestSightings.com that the group heard a strange rattling noise coming from close by.
It was the sound of a porcupine's quills moving against the advance of not one but seven lions. The lions had plans to make the porcupine their next prey, but the porcupine was not going to go down that easily.

Hennie describes how the porcupine kept its back to the lions throughout the confrontation, raising its quills and preventing the other animals from getting close enough to capture it.
The lions, finally accepting defeat, stalked off to drink water. Hennie believes this was quite a unique sighting, as porcupines rarely go head to head with such large animals, much less do they win!
