Great Dane proves you can indeed teach an old dog new tricks
Updated | By The Workzone with Barney Simon
A Maine family's Great Dane surprised them by quickly becoming confident with a new exercise routine.
There is an old saying that goes, "you can't teach an old dog new tricks". There is only a certain number of habits and tricks that any dog can be trained in and they have a limited capacity for branching out and being creative.
But if that is true, how do you explain Luca the Great Dane's penchant for fun new exercise routines?
Luca saw his dad Chris doing a quick set of lunges in the family living room and, though he was confused about the human's jerky movements at first, the Great Dane decided to join in. After all, what's good for the human dad must be good for the furry child, right?
Luca dedicates himself to perfectly copying Chris's actions, following him as he does lunges back and forth in the living room. By the third lap across the room, Luca has perfected the movement, lowering himself on his front legs to mimic the way Chris bends the knees of his legs.
Luca's family had no idea that he was so good at picking up new tricks.
The dog may not be adding lunges to the end of his daily walks, but his attempt has given the 25 million people who have viewed the video on Facebook a new perspective on how easy it is to pick up a routine and get fit.
