It's a new month, and before you know it the first quarter of 2018 will be over. Here are five facts about March to get your new month off to a fun start.
March comes after the rush of the new year, but before the mid-year slump. It is a time to re-evaluate your goals and see if you are still on track to have your best 2018.
While you re-write your to-do lists, here are five fast facts about the month of March to drop into your next water cooler conversation.
- The first of March marked New Year's Day for Ancient Romans. Before 150BC, people only recognised the last ten months of the calendar as we now know it, beginning their year in March and ending it in December.
- There are two birthstones associated with the month of March: aquamarine and bloodstone. Both are said to 'preserve and enhance the health of the wearer'.
- 14 March is Pi Day. Mathematics enthusiasts all over the world celebrate the occurrence of 3/14 (the American style of writing the date) with Pi jokes and the occasional freshly baked pie.
- St Patrick's Day falls on 17 March. Even though the saint's original colour of choice was blue, it has been traditional for many years for revellers to wear green on the day.
- 21 March is the anniversary of the first tweet, sent out by founder Jack Dorsey. It read: 'just setting up my Twttr'. (When Twitter first launched in 2006, it was called 'Twttr'.)
