South Africans express their interest in studying abroad: What's the deal?
Should we be concerned that so many South Africans have one foot out of the country?
A recent study has revealed that many South Africans are showing a great interest in studying abroad.
Of course, since the unrest last year, we have seen a noticeable growth in skilled South Africans seeking a new place to call home, outside South Africa.
The sad reality is that many people are looking for better opportunities and dare we say, greener pastures.
According to results released by BrandMapp, a total of 1.24-million South Africans have expressed an interest in studying abroad.
Whilst, "the International Education Association of South Africa (IEASA) reports that the number of South Africans studying abroad totalled 12 000, in March 2020." (The South African)
The reason is linked to many South Africans being determined to find better work and living opportunities.
Although many may not be able to actually emigrate, around 27% of adults expressed that they would like to leave SA in the next five years, BrandMapp reveals.

With the rise in interest coming from those under 25 years of age, who are predominantly middle-class black South Africans, it shows that the hopes for a better future and earning in top currencies is high up on the goal list.
However, it's important to mention that it won't be easy gaining entry into institutions abroad.
It has also been made inherently clear by Heidi Sulcas from The Learner’s Journey, who is also the editor of 'University Speaking: the South African Guide to Overseas Study', that South African high school and tertiary qualifications are often looked upon unfavourably overseas.
However, with all that being said, there has been a notable rise in many students opting to study online. Here's to our ever-changing world...
