Husband expects wife to text him when supper is ready

A father is getting slammed for being inconsiderate on Reddit, after it was revealed that he expects his wife to text him when supper is ready so he can make his way home from the bar.
Family dynamics can be different for each family. At the end of the day, it isn't always about pleasing social norms, but rather to find a rhythm that your family beats to and follow suit.
But not all family dynamics seem to follow a fair and supportive formula. Of course, we live in a time where the gender specific roles of what mothers and fathers do have evolved.
That doesn't necessarily mean that everyone has evolved.
This dad certainly is still living in the 50s, when men worked and women had the dinner ready.
A post on Reddit posted by a frustrated mother shared that her husband and her both worked.
She works from home and her husband in construction. The husband got off work 2.5 hours earlier so he is responsible for picking up the kids from school. But it seems he thinks that is his only responsibility.
After he drops the kids off at home, he goes to the gym and then visits the local pub. He now began asking his wife to text him when dinner is ready so he can make his way home.
Part of the reason this mother shared her story on Reddit was to ask Redditors if she was being an a-hole for not wanting to text him. She feels abandoned on the parenting journey and we cannot say we blame her.
It sounds like he is living in a world where he is still a kid, waiting for mom to call him in from playing when dinner is ready.
In the real world, this is unjust. Of course things were different way back when, but we live in a different time. It's the expectation of having your wife work, do all the cleaning, caring for your kids, and cooking.
People came to the comments section in her defence. What's worse is that she doesn't even expect any help from him when it comes to the dinner, just his presence will help.
And honestly isn't that what most women want when it comes to support, just having someone to talk to?
We loved this comment from a dad, it was both valuable for this mother and all parents.
"Very early in our marriage, my wife and I swapped cooking as we both worked full time. Once the kids came, we both cooked, and the question each evening was, ‘Kitchen or kids?’” he wrote. “So one bathed, clothed, read and put the kids to bed, and the other cleaned the kitchen completely and got lunch together for the next day. And naturally, we swapped those chores.” (SheKnows)
