After high school, Hanco attended SAMI, the South African Music Institute, where he specialised in songwriting, piano, and music theory. In early 2018, whilst enrolled at SAMI, Hanco signed a worldwide record deal with The David Gresham Record Company. Hanco subsequently went onto release his debut EP, 'Hou Vas', which saw him garner a “Newcomer of the Year” nomination and rack up over half a million streams, setting him on the road to a full-time career in the music industry.
‘Echo’, ‘Hope’, ‘Tequila Girl’, and ‘Lucky’ are a few of the standout tracks off Hanco’s debut English album. The album also sees production and artistic collaborations with world-renowned DJ’s REGI and Mark Stent.
Jacaranda FM’s Carla Mackenzie sat down with Hanco for an exclusive listening session of his album, to be released on 29 May 2020.
"The album is my voice being heard! I’m proud of this project and feel that this is the most honest and vulnerable work I’ve put out. Each song has a different story and feeling to it. I worked with a lot of different people in different places to create this album. “Echo” is about asking and confronting an echo in your head. Why are the words coming back when all you want is a response from the person you’re calling out to?” - Hanco.
