Whisking it up with the Samba Whisk dance challenge
It seems it isn't just Shakira who can bring us some hip action...
The Samba Whisk challenge dance has exploded on TikTok, with people from all dance levels trying out this epic move.
The original is said to have come from a Latin dance instructor, Ruslan Aidaev, who quickly took on the title of 'blue shirt guy' on TikTok. This was after a video of him resurfaced on TikTok and gained traction as the 'whisk challenge' or 'whisk dance'.
According to the Perfect Corp website, "The original clip was filmed during a 2021 Latin dance event called Latin World Camp, where Aidaev demonstrated the elegant Samba Whisk dance step. While the footage had existed online since 2022, it didn’t reach meme status until 2025."

That video sparked an online takeover of the Samba Whisk with Brian Michael Hinds, who posted the original remix by adding Sam Gellaitry's 'Assumptions', which was the perfect mix for the whisk.
Ironically, he wore a pink shirt in the video, 'The Pink Shirt Guy.
"His edit perfectly captured the rhythmic vibe of the Samba Whisk step and added a humorous caption that sparked a wave of imitations. The dance’s flowing movements, Aidaev's calm demeanour, and the beat-sync made the video hypnotising—many viewers even joked that it looked AI-generated," reports Perfect Corp.
