Most expensive bag in SA worth a quarter of a million sold out in eight minutes
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
As South Africans try to find their financial footing with the cost of everything rising, one person just purchased a Hermès Fjord Leather Birkin handbag.
They say a picture can be worth a thousand words. Well, so can a handbag.
Only difference is that this particular handbag is worth more than a quarter million worth of words...
Now as many people find themselves scrambling around trying to make ends meet, one person is making bold moves and purchases it seems.
A pre-owned Hermès Fjord Leather Birkin 35 in black, known as the most expensive bag in South Africa, was sold last week.
It was posted on Luxity, SA's first "omnichannel boutique focused on buying and selling pre-owned, authentic luxury goods to consumers throughout the country." (IOL)
And in a matter of minutes, eight minutes actually, it was sold for a sizeable R280,000.

If you are wondering what makes this bag the most expensive, then here is a descriptive answer as put forth by Luxity.
"Luxity explained that what makes the Hermès Fjord Leather Birkin 35 such an expensive item is that it is crafted from durable fjord leather and features rolled leather top handles, a cross over flap and a strap closure with palladium silver clasps and a palladium silver turn lock along with a hanging clochette with keys for the padlock." (IOL)
We can understand why it is such a statement piece. And we hope that the new owner will feel just as luxurious as the bag...
Because carrying a R280 000 handbag is no small thing - it is a bold and iconic style piece.
