DYK? It takes an average of 45min to say goodbye at parties

“That means we spend an average of 18 hours and 45 minutes each year saying goodbye.”

There's nothing new about that, because it's something of a thing that runs across all cultures.

Whether that be at parties, family get-togethers or just random friend visits, the time it takes to bid our loved ones farewell always takes longer than we expect.

But sometimes it ends up being the best part of the night, where the most laughs and memories are created.

However, it comes at a cost.

"Researchers from the UNSW’s Time Management Institute interviewed 2000 Australians, finding on average they go to 25 parties per year.

“From the moment we decide it’s time to leave a party it takes us, on average, 45 minutes to say goodbye,” says lead researcher Dean Hoddle." (Double Bay Today)

That sounds about right if we are really honest with ourselves.

On the flip side, this is an honest sign if you are not good company, as you won't experience that 45-minute delay.

According to the research, that 45-minute goodbye routine adds up to an "average of 18 hours and 45 minutes each year saying goodbye." (Double Bay Today)

In other words, those that leave parties without saying goodbye essentially gain a day and a half of their time a year.

"The report found those who say goodbye are forced into repeating the same excuses for leaving to multiple people. And they risk being convinced to stay at the party longer, especially by the host.

“Don’t fall into this trap,” says Dean Hoddle. “Typically most party hosts are too busy or wasted to care if you do a sneaky runner.” (Double Bay Today)
