Celebrities reading bedtime stories is big business
Updated | By The Workzone with Alex Jay
Orlando Bloom is the latest star to join the line-up on CBeebies Bedtime Stories Celebrities series, following the likes of Dolly Parton and Sir Elton John.
In the United Kingdom, BBC's kids' programming channel CBeebies has perfected the formula for fun bedtime stories: get an unexpected celebrity guest to read a few pages from a famous children's story. Children who watch the segment every evening at 18:50 have seen the likes of Dolly Parton, Eddie Redmayne, and Ewan McGregor reading them to sleep.
Even if the story doesn't grab their attention, the children might be so taken by the stars that they'll be lulled to sleep just by their charm.
The latest celebrity to be announced as part of the Bedtime Stories line-up is Orlando Bloom. From Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean and now on to Britta Teckentrup's We Are Together.
That will be quite a change from epic adventures in Middle Earth, but the British actor will surely be able to pull it off. His story will air on Friday, 9 November.
Which South African celebrity do you think would do really well at reading bedtime stories to children? It has to be someone with an animated personality who loves making funny voices to entertain children. And if they've got a background in acting, then even better.
