The news that David Bowie passed away on the evening of the 10th of January, after a 18 month long battle with cancer, has left a void in the hearts of millions of fans. This comes just days after he released a new album called "Blackstar" on his birthday, 8 Jan. 


As a tribute from The Lounge here are 10 interesting facts about David Bowie: (with a bonus surprise at the end)


1. David Bowie had a tea phobia. He reportedly had a "horrible incident" with a cup of tea when he was 5 years-old and has hated the drink ever since.


2. In 2007 Bowie voiced a character called "Lord Royal Highness", in a Spongebob Squarepants movie. In a blogpost he wrote: "I've hit the Holy Grail of animation gigs, yesterday I got to be a character on... tan-tara ... SpongeBob Squarepants. Oh Yeah!!".

3. At the height of cocaine psychosis, Bowie was so dazed and paranoid from drugs that he allegedly stored his own urine in the fridge in case a wizard stole it. 


4. Bowie's friend George Underwood punched him in the eye during a fight over a girl when they were in school, as a result David's right pupil was permanently dilated. This gave rise to the rumour that he had Heterochromia, a condition where a person is born with different colour eyes.


5. As a teenager, David was interviewed on a BBC programme as the founder of The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Long-haired Men. He said: "It's not nice when people call you darling and that". 


6. This is a photo of David at London Rules Restaurant, 1973, receiving a presentation of 6 discs from RCA Records for having an incredible SIX ALBUMS on the charts that year. You don't see today's artists having 6 albums on the charts in 1 year!

7. He was a big fan of Placebo and called them one of his favorite bands.


8. Despite the fact that he released a new album called  Blackstar,  just days ago (8 January 2016), in 2006 David announced that he was "fed up with the industry and I've been fed up for some time" David's career has spanned over 6 decades!!


9. In 1974, he weighed just 43kgs and lived on a diet of peppers and milk during the height of his cocaine addiction.


10. Lastly, how to correctly pronounce his name: Bowie is pronounced to rhyme with Joey and not with Howie or Wowee.
