Suicide: When people feel they can’t find a way out
Updated | By The Late Show
Experts say depression and suicide does not discriminate.
Depression and suicide has again been thrown into the spotlight following the death of Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington.
People across the globe have lashed out saying less attention should be given to those who take their own lives.
However, the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (Sadag) says it’s important we speak about mental illness to demyth the stigmas surrounding the illness which is the leading cause of suicide globally.
Sadag operations director Cassey Chambers says: “Mental illness is a real illness that needs real treatment.”
She says help is at hand, but often people don’t know where to go.
