South African girl takes on shark-infested waters
She might only be 10 years old, but this swimmer is set to take on big swells and cold waters all in the name of charity.
Abriella Bredell is taking on one of the toughest open water swims in the world.
The 10-year-old is set to be the youngest participant in the race's history.
The Late Show's Carla Mackenzie caught up with the Jeffreys Bay pupil to find out why she's taken on this big task and also to be inspired by her ahead of the Jacaranda FM Spring Walk .
Abriella is in full preparation mode for her swim between Robben Island and Big Bay which is less than 4 months away.
One of the biggest obstacles to overcome is the extreme cold as the water temperature is on average about 13 degrees Celsius as well as apex predators.
She says her coach trains her, but admits her main concern is jellyfish and stingrays.
"It's all jelly-ish," she says.
Abriella aims to raise R2 Million for the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital.
