Getting a tattoo is a lifelong commitment and sometimes you regret the decisions you made in the past. Bobby van Jaarsveld seems to have had second thoughts on his cross tattoo that he had on his bicep.

The Afrikaans pop star took to social media today and posted a photo of the removal process. This forms part of a process he began a number of years ago.

In an interview with Sarie in 2001 Bobby said he decided to remove the tattoo because he feels it does not project the right image.

"In the beginning it’s nice to have a tattoo, you feel cool…but after a while you become tired of it, especially if it’s visible all the time," he said.

"I especially feel bad when children say they want the exact tattoo, because I realise I am not a good example in this regard."

"When I initially decided to get the tattoos, I decided on Christian symbols, because I wanted it to be nice, something that would let my relationship with God grow.

"But now I realise that we don't worship the cross, but a living God. He doesn't live in symbols, but in our hearts."
