TCB pranks Idols SA judge Somizi
Updated | By Bronwyn Hardick
For those who have not yet had the privilege of having crossed paths with Somizi Mhlongo, here’s what you need to know: He’s flamboyant, outspoken and the most talked about judge on the panel for season 11 of Idols South Africa.
His introduction to the reality show has been well received as a breath of fresh air as he not only brings experience as an actor, dancer, TV presenter and choreographer to the table, he adds some much needed sparkle to the cast of veteran judges.
When The Complimentary Breakfast received confirmation that Somizi was penned in as a guest on the show, they began planning an elaborate scheme to see just how well the Idols judge knows how to identify talent.
At Jacaranda FM the demos for hopeful musicians flood in on a daily basis. Three of these albums were selected and presented to Somizi where he was tasked with identifying the hopeful with the most potential to make it big out of the lot. Little did he know, one of the three was a fake artist, created by The Complimentary Breakfast…
Somizi took the bait and like a beautifully coordinated dance, the plan came together perfectly!
Listen to how Wiellem (aka Willem, the show’s technical producer) fooled Somizi into thinking that he is indeed the next big thing waiting to take over the SA music scene.

For those that wanted access to the song we played this morning as part of our prank on Somizi, here it is. Written by Willem van Biljon, performed by Ren Bester.
Wiellem's competition
Somizi chuffed with the undiscovered talent that he will soon get to meet.
