Sugar addiction tested in studio

Do you really know how much sugar you're putting in your body when having a seemingly healthy, low fat breakfast? One listener consumes 27 teaspoons of hidden sugars by 09:00 - but will she change her ways?

On Monday The Complimentary Breakfast asked listeners to admit to having a sugar addiction.

 

After receiving hundreds of messages, 27-year old Stephanie Carter from Centurion came out tops after she confessed that her if her cravings were not attended to, she would be left feeling weak and suffering from headaches. She is a complete chocoholic and can't finish a meal without having a sweet treat at the end. Stephanie joined the team in studio and upon arrival received a normal, low fat breakfast similar to the kind Damon had in his experiment, that is considered to be a typical way to start the day.

 

On the menu was:
- 175g low fat yoghurt
- 500ml orange juice
- 100g cereal
- 250g low fat drinking yoghurt

 

 

Little did Stephanie know that this seemingly healthy breakfast contained 27 teaspoons of sugar. After the breakfast, admitting that she felt completely normal, Stephanie continued to consume a slab of chocolate, taking her sugar count to 45 teaspoons by 09:00 (1 teaspoon of sugar = 4g) 

 

Richard from ER24 popped in to keep an eye on all her vital signs and see what kind of effect the sugar has on her energy and mood.

 

Even Stephanie was shocked by the outcomes of this experiment...
