Dog friendly 7de Laan theme song
Updated | By Bronwyn Hardick
Fans of the popular South African TV series 7de Laan are furious about the iconic theme song change - and so is the nation’s pets! Many dogs are so confused by the change that they are no longer howl or bark along to inform their owners that their favourite soapie has started.
Gone is the iconic Louis van Rensburg composition performed by the Soweto String Quartet which has been a trigger for South Africans for the past 15 years, and enter the new unknown Joe Niemand composition and opening sequence from Hey!Fever.
The Complimentary Breakfast took it upon themselves to try and cheer up the disgruntled dogs by producing a new dog-friendly version of the theme song based on pet psychology.
According to Psychology Today: "Howling is actually a form of communication, which can indicate loneliness in an isolated dog, but often serves other social functions. Wolves howl to assemble the pack and also to reinforce the identity of the group. The kind of human music that most often induces a dog to howl is produced on wind instruments, particularly reed instruments, such as clarinets or saxophones. Sometimes dogs can be induced to howl by a long note on the violin or even by a human holding a long note while singing. Perhaps these sound like proper howls to the listening dog and he feels the need to answer and join the chorus. There are reports of dogs that had definite tastes in music and some sense of what constitutes good music. When the researchers played heavy metal music the dogs became quite agitated and began barking."
Based on these findings, this is Willem's dog friendly version of the 7de Laan theme:
