Taxpayers funded UK prisoners' karaoke night
Updated | By Nkhensani Manabe
Can citizens ever know for sure what their taxes are being used for? Footage from inside a UK prison raises serious questions.
A video clip showing two prisoners grilling lamb chops and preparing drinks ahead of a karaoke night was posted on Metro.co.uk, and it has angered UK residents.
The prison system in the UK is already suffering issues of
overcrowding and low wages for prison staff. In light of this video, taxpayers
are once again asking what their money is truly being used for.

How did the prisoners get the money for the food and the cellphone? A spokesman for the Prison Service says this kind of behaviour from prisoners is “unacceptable” and also mentioned that there are plans to introduce technology which blocks cellphone signals in prison.
Prisons in South Africa have also had their share of
administration troubles. After Oscar Pistorious was arrested, and it was
reported that he had a cellphone in prison, there were arguments about the
preferential treatment of certain kinds of inmates. Earlier this year, reports
of exotic dancers performing at “Sun City” prison in Johannesburg raised
questions about the freedoms that inmates enjoy even behind bars.

When visuals such as these surface online, you have to wonder: what is the government really using our taxes for?
