Takeaway Wednesday: Monica & Andre's "Divorce Sauce"

Monica Mons responded to Rian's call for a delectable sauce that goes well with a steak. She calls it the "Divorce Sauce" - find out why below.

Monica wrote to us on Facebook saying her husband, Andre, makes the best sauce ever - and it is known as the "Divorce Sauce":

WE HAVE THE MOST AMAZING CHEESE, MUSHROOM, WHITE WINE SAUCE WE MAKE WITH STEAKS. It must be eaten with preferably gas prepared meat - and definitely nothing more done than medium rare. My husband created this sauce 35 years ago after he got divorced - our friends refer to this as THE DIVORCE SAUCE!

Ingredients

• 1 large ripe tomato (or half a can of tomato puree)

• 1 medium onion, thinly sliced

• 150g button mushrooms, halved

• 1 cup white wine

• 1 tsp chopped garlic

• 200g grated cheddar cheese

• 150ml cream 

• 1 tbsp cooking oil to fry

Method

In a pot fry the onions until soft then add mushrooms and the garlic. Add tomato and wine and let it simmer until wine is reduced.

Next, add cream and grated cheese.

Serve and enjoy.
