Takeaway Wednesday: This is not what a bredie should look like
Updated | By The Scenic Drive with Rian
Nothing rounds off a winter evening quite like a hearty tomato bredie - but it appears this listener passed us their tamatiesmoor recipe instead!
Ingredients
- 2 large onions
- 5 tomatoes
- olive oil (for frying)
- 1 tbsp oregano
- 1 tbsp parsley
- 1 tbsp basil
- 1 tbsp mixed spice
- 1/4 tbsp paprika
- 1/4 tbsp cumin
- 1/4 tbsp black pepper
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup Worcester sauce
- 1 cup water
- salt, to taste
Method
- Cut onions in half and slice thinly. Fry in olive oil until soft.
- Blanche tomatoes. Remove skin and add to onion. Cook mixture until the tomatoes are well done.
- Add all dry spices and mix well.
- Add water.
- Add tomato sauce and Worcester sauce.
- Simmer over low heat for 5-10 minutes. Serve.
What do you think: is this a smoor or is it a bredie?
