Takeaway Wednesday: This is not what a bredie should look like

Nothing rounds off a winter evening quite like a hearty tomato bredie - but it appears this listener passed us their tamatiesmoor recipe instead!

Ingredients

  • 2 large onions
  • 5 tomatoes
  • olive oil (for frying)
  • 1 tbsp oregano
  • 1 tbsp parsley
  • 1 tbsp basil
  • 1 tbsp mixed spice
  • 1/4 tbsp paprika
  • 1/4 tbsp cumin
  • 1/4 tbsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup Worcester sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • salt, to taste

Method

  1. Cut onions in half and slice thinly. Fry in olive oil until soft. 
  2. Blanche tomatoes. Remove skin and add to onion. Cook mixture until the tomatoes are well done.
  3. Add all dry spices and mix well.
  4. Add water.
  5. Add tomato sauce and Worcester sauce.
  6. Simmer over low heat for 5-10 minutes. Serve.
