Practical jokers replace rifles with toy replicas in Paraguay

Officials doing inventory of armour at a police station in Paraguay were shocked to discover that their rifles had been stolen - and replaced with toy replicas.
Authorities in Paraguay discovered that official police rifles were being sold on the black market and began an investigation into the source of the weapons.
That is when the police made an embarrassing discovery: the rifles had not only been stolen from police, but they had also been replaced with toy replicas, and they were none the wiser.

The guns were being sold on the black market for up to $10,000 (more than R140,000), leading the military to begin asking questions. No one expected that the FN FAL battle rifle replicas would be hidden in plain sight.
If the police did not notice that the guns were fake, this raises questions about whether they are keeping proper records of their armour to begin with?

No culprits have been identified, but the officer in charge of the armoury has been replaced.
