Portugal makes it illegal for bosses to message workers after working hours

The Portuguese parliament wants to give employees a better work-life balance.

COVID-19 has become a reality and working from home has become the norm. More and more companies are allowing workers to work from home. 

A six-month experiment has also been launched by the Four Day Week Ireland campaign aiming to deliver positive results for business and work-life balance for employees.

The Portuguese parliament has passed new labour laws to give workers a healthier work-life balance.

Employers could face penalties for contacting employees outside work hours, according to the new laws.

The employers will be forced to pay for increased expenses as a result of working from home - such as gas and electricity bills. 

Further rules such as banning employers from monitoring their workers at home will also be implemented.
