"I have officially retired" - Olympic surfer Bianca Buitendag ready for next phase
Olympic silver medalist Bianca Buitendag spoke to the Scenic Drive about the next phase of her life.
Bianca Buitendag from Victoria Bay in the Western Cape walked away with a silver medal as she made her surfing debut at the Olympics.
This was the first time the sport was included in the Olympics.

Buitendag won South Africa's second medal winner after swimmer Tatjana Schoenmaker won a gold medal.
The Tuks student won the women's 200m breaststroke final, setting a new world record.

After making history as South Africa's first surfer to win a medal at any Olympics, Buitendag would like to start giving back and working with orphaned and vulnerable children.
Buitendag obtained a bachelor of science degree in finance and accounting from Northeastern University in Boston.

The Scenic Drive team and Robbie Kruse spoke to Buitendag about her surfing career, the Olympics, and the future.
"After school, my parents gave me a year to perform in surfing."
Buitendag continued by saying that she also decided to get a degree.
"I have officially retired and will not take part in the next Olympics. I'm ready for the next phase of my life," Buitendag continued.
