London mom branded a 'closet serial killer' over lifelike cake decorations
Updated | By The Scenic Drive with Rian
Hannah Edwards has built a reputable cake and confectionary business offering highly detailed novelty cakes. The popularity of her cakes has opened her up to abuse from people on the internet.
Most people would agree that cake decorating is fun. It gives you a chance to express yourself creatively and, if you are lucky enough to make a living off of it, it allows you to become a part of people's special family celebrations.
That's what London's Hannah Edwards does with her novelty cakes, which often take the shape of bags or crowns and other common items that may fit the client's theme and request. Hannah has also trained herself to create lifelike cakes that resemble animals, and these have proven very popular.
But now Hannah is experiencing an inexplicable upsurge in negative comments about her cakes from observers online. The issue: the "cruelty" of posting videos of herself cutting into animal cakes.
The Mirror reports that Hannah Baker, who trades under the name "The Cake Illusionist", has been taken to task online by people who believe that cutting into an animal cake promotes animal cruelty.

People who are new to her work are under the impression that her animal cakes are a thin veil over her abusive tendencies. Ignoring the incredible dedication and skill that goes into creating the cakes, observers have said that Hannah's behaviour is "barbaric": "THIS IS DISGUSTING!!!! What's wrong with people - how can you cut and eat a cake that looks like a real animal, eyes, face, heart, ribs?!? Barbaric. STUPID."
This strong reaction against Hannah's cakes is especially surprising considering how the Mail Online reported on the popularity and success of Hannah's animal cakes, which her clients order when they plan special celebrations.
The extraordinary attention to detail on Hannah's cakes would cause anyone to take a second look before cutting into it, but does that mean it is right to accuse her of creating an army of confectionary-loving serial killers?
