Kabelo Chabalala says money talks

Kabelo Chabalala is a journalist-turned-motivational speaker working in the Gauteng area. He is the co-founder of the Young Men Movement, which is focused on empowering young boys, providing mentorship and encouraging them to become great men.

Kabelo has written for The Star and Pretoria News, sharing his opinion on social issues. Recently, he has spoken up about how the notion that you have to be loyal to one company or employer for the rest of your life is outdated. Specifically, he does not believe that this idea serves black employees. 

 

Kabelo believes black employees are expected to work twice as hard for half the pay, and it is for this reason that their only loyalty should be to the bottom line - that is, their bank balance. 

Kabelo wrote in an IOL column, titled "Why I won't hesitate to follow the money", that sharing these views as a millennial has convinced Kabelo's older colleagues that he is "part of a generation that doesn’t want to earn their stripes". But that is not the case.

Kabelo understands the idea of working your way up in a career, but he also realises that staying in a job that is not fulfilling and does not provide a comfortable salary is not worth it. While there is value in building a career step by step, the reality is that any small amount of extra money goes a long way in the lives of black people.
