The incredible love story that started in a prison cell

When Rian van Heerden asked where the Scenic Drive's listeners had met their life partners, he did not expect to hear this incredible story of lives changed and love won from behind prison bars.

Rian goes out of his way to connect with each of the 12 listeners of The Scenic Drive by asking questions and engaging with them.

Each day he learns something new about the people who follow the show. There is definitely no shortage of interesting characters in The Scenic Drive family!

When Rian asked: "Where did you meet your life partner?" he was inundated with SMSes with all sorts of interesting answers. Among those saying they met their partners at work, at church, at the mall or at a braai, there was one answer that stood out: a listener said that she had met her life partner while they were both serving time in prison.

"V" told Rian how she made friends with her now-partner after a prison fight took a turn. V was so intrigued by the woman's behaviour that she just knew she had to get to know her better. They were just friends at first, but their bond grew stronger. V described how the two women "had each other's backs".

V says that prison, and her subsequent friendship with the other woman, taught her a lot about people, cultures and the world. It also gave her a great love that she was willing to sacrifice her parole for.

V described how she set up a house for herself and her partner as soon as she left prison. The friendship had blossomed into something much more and the two, who have been together for over 17 years, now run a catering company together.

Rian and the team were spellbound by V's story, and Rian noted that The Scenic Drive's listeners were among the most interesting people on the planet.
