Entire Western Cape town goes into quarantine

The entire town of Kliprand in the Western Cape is under quarantine after more than 10% of the population tested positive.
South Africa is currently in its third wave. Statistics released by the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) show that 9,160 people tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday.
Gauteng continues to record the most number of positive cases at 69%, followed by the Western Cape at 9%.

That’s out of the 36,858 people who were tested.
A small, very rural town in Namakwaland in the Western Cape, Kliprand, is currently closed down due to COVID-19.

The entire town of Kliprand is under quarantine after around 10% of the population tested positive. According to reports, more than 20 of the 250 residents tested positive for COVID-19 so far.
It’s estimated that half the households have an active COVID-19 case under their roof.

The only shop, school, and soup kitchen is closed.
The nearest town is Vredendal, which is about 150 kilometres away.
