Can you name more of the world's countries than these Americans can?

Jimmy Kimmel, the unofficial leader of the charge when it comes to street quizzes, asked ordinary American citizens to point out different countries on a map. The results were dismal.
Regular viewers of Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be familiar with the experiments that his team conducts on the streets of California. Each week, Jimmy sends a crew out and has them ask ordinary citizens a simple question.
Invariably, the answers people give reveal a disturbing truth about the average American citizen's general knowledge. This recent geography quiz was no different.
When asked to identify countries on a map of the world, most who were polled could not even differentiate between a country and a continent.

The most confusing places on the map seemed to be South America and Africa, two continents which only a few of those polled could identify.

When asked to name any African country, one person said: "who knows stuff like that?". Could it be that the average American person does not know any geography that isn't related to the United States? If that were the case, then one of them might at least have been able to identify their own country.
Of course, pressuring people to answer questions on camera puts them at an immediate disadvantage. It's possible that if they were given more time, these people would be able to identify a handful of countries.
Still, this footage does raise questions about what exactly is being taught at American schools.
But before you judge them, think about this: how many countries of the world can you name at a glance?
