Blast from the past: A young Rian van Heerden once interviewed FW De Klerk

Rian van Heerden has built a respectable career for himself in radio and television over the years with his straightforward attitude and his incredible storytelling ability. But where did it all start?

Often, signs of greatness are visible as early as schoolgoing age. For Rian, perhaps one of the biggest signs was the interview he did with then-President of South Africa, FW De Klerk.

As part of a group of youth representatives from various political organisations, Rian had the opportunity to interview De Klerk at the beginning of his presidency. 
The interview aired on Agenda, a current affairs TV show. 

One of the fellow interviewers shared the picture that the group took on the day. A few more of the group went on to make name for themselves in media and in politics. 

While this may not be one of De Klerk's best pictures, Rian himself looks great.

He shares the full story of the day he met the president in his book, 16 Dinge Wat Ek Nié Moes Sê Nie, currently available at all good bookstores.
