Wentworth Miller's touching response to fat-shaming meme

The popularity of “memes” have taken hold of the Internet, filling Facebook and Twitter feeds with colorful pictures and offbeat captions.

Memes are a great way to “make light of anything” and can sometimes provoke good discussion, but what happens when you become the joke?

The offending meme was done by LAD BIBLE and compares two photos of Miller: one showing a shirtless promotional shot from Prison Break and the other one showing a larger Miller wearing a red T-shirt with the caption " When you break out of prison and find out about McDonald's monopoly."

Former Prison Break star opened up about the matter on his Facebook Page, saying how the meme hurt him and how it served as a reminder of his sad past which was full of depression and suicidal thoughts.

"The first time I saw this meme pop up in my social media feed, I have to admit, it hurt to breathe," he wrote.

Miller said in 2010 he semi-retired from acting because he was at the lowest point of his life and was fighting mental health. During this time he turned to food for comfort which led to him putting on weight.

"In 2010, at the lowest point in my adult life, I was looking everywhere for relief/comfort/distraction. And I turned to food. It could have been anything. Drugs. Alcohol. Sex. But eating became the one thing I could look forward to. Count on to get me through. There were stretches when the highlight of my week was a favorite meal and a new episode of TOP CHEF. Sometimes that was enough. Had to be. And I put on weight, " he wrote.

"Now, when I see that image of me in my red T-shirt, a rare smile on my face, I am reminded of my struggle. My endurance and my perseverance in the face of all kinds of demons. Some within. Some without. Like a dandelion up through the pavement, I persist.
