Video: Adele's "Someone Like You" gets The Soil's master acapella treatment!
Ahead of gracing the stage at Soweto's inaugural The Color Run, South Africa's acapella masters The Soil stopped by the Jacaranda FM studios to give another master's work their unique treatment - Adele's "Someone Like You".
Often performing with nothing more than three distinct vocals flowing out of three human beings, The Soil have gained tremendous acclaim for their signature vocal style.
Having been formed thirteen years ago when brothers Ntsika and Luphindo Ngxaka met 'Soil Sister' Buhle Mda at a Soweto high school, the trio have gone on to grace international stages in countries as far as Russia, the UK and the world-famous Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New York City.
In recent weeks, Mda has had to take leave from her commitments to The Soil to get training for her ancestral calling.
Mda's sabbatical saw the group launch a nation-wide search via social media for a vocalist to stand in for her.
20-year-old Theo Matshoba is now the group’s chosen third vocalist in Mda’s absence: “At first, I was like ‘I’m not sure I can do this, her shoes are really big to fill. But it’s going really well, these guys are teaching me a lot!”
