Shocking! Sitting has the power to age you quicker
Updated | By Poelano Malema
Many of us spend hours and hours sitting down. We sit in front of our computers at work and even get home to sit and watch TV for hours, but sadly, this could be sending us to our graves sooner.
Scientists conducted a study based on 1,481 women, all over the age of 64. The study involved analysing the women’s movement for a week using a movement recording gadget called accelerometers.
“We found that women who sat longer did not have shorter telomere length if they exercised for at least 30 minutes a day, the national recommended guideline,” Dr. Shadyab, who led the research, said.
He then went on to recommend that exercising should not be limited to a specific age.
“Discussions about the benefits of exercise should start when we are young, and physical activity should continue to be part of our daily lives as we get older, even at 80 years old,” he added.
