Pupil attempts suicide after sex tape with teacher goes viral

We live in a society where young girls often get lured into having sex for money. Some of them even go to the extent of seeking blessers, just so that they can have the latest fashion, gadgets, and cars.  They become a target for adults who take advantage of their vulnerability. But the sad reality is, the victims are the ones who have to face harsh criticism from society.

Like a Grade 11 pupil from Ekucabangeni Secondary School in Nquthu in KwaZulu-Natal who tried to take her own life after society labeled and shamed her for sleeping with her 45-year-old life orientation teacher.

In an interview with the Sowetan, the emotional teenager said since the sex video came out, residents from her area had labelled her as ' isifebe esincane [little bitch], who has no shame sleeping with such an old man'. Added to that, she was also humiliated by her own family, with her parents calling her a disgrace. What is interesting is how through all this public shame, the teen still believes what she had with the teacher was love.

The young girl was reportedly taken to hospital after her parents found her attempting suicide over the weekend. She is not the only girl who is dealing with ‘labeling’ from society. Sithembiso Sibisi, the school governing body chairman, told the publication that the other six girls who are also victims of the abuse have become a laughing stock of society

Although the teacher is facing cases of sexual assault and statutory rape, he is reportedly still at large.
