Truworths Mother's Day campaign causes social stir
Updated | By Poelano Malema
Though Truworths, in its campaign, may have fully endorsed teenage pregnancy, to many this was not a real representation of what mothers look like.
Following criticism, Truworths released a statement, saying: "Truworths aims to put forward a fashionable and aspirational campaign for all events. In this case, the model, (actually she is in her mid-twenties) was selected for her glamorous appearance – rather than as a representation of all customers who are mothers."
It went on to add that it is of the view that mothers should feel attractive, and it aims to support women in their intention to do so.
"We are firmly of the view that mothers should feel youthful and attractive if they wish to do so and our role is to provide them with the fashion, cosmetics and fragrances to support their intention to do so. We will of course take into account the social media comments when we next run a similar campaign."
In the light of this Truworths advert. I must ask. How will our women ever be fully emancipated and empowered if we continue to sexify them?

Fortunately for those who were offended by this campaign, Ashley Graham released the #MySwimBody! which featured woman of all sizes.
"Beauty is beyond size, and we are calling on women everywhere to embrace their curves, especially at the beach or by the pool. This is the summer of #MySwimBody, when we are encouraging all women to let go of their inhibitions and lose the cover up at the beach," CEO and President of swimsuitsforall, Moshe Laniado, told reporters.
The campaign was praised by many on social media.
