Facebook improving mobile profiles
Updated | By Minenhle Khoza
Facebook
announced on Wednesday that they will be redesigning mobile profiles and will
begin testing video profile pictures.
On Wednesday, the social network unveiled new, mobile-friendly features for Facebook profiles. Facebook says there are three main improvements that will give you more opportunities to express who you are and control the content showcased on your profile.
Bring Your Profile to Life
Profile videos will allow you to film a short, looping video that will play for anyone who visits your profile. Facebook has also introduced a new feature for profile pictures: temporary versions of profile pictures that will revert to back to your previous profile picture at a specified time. If you want to support the Springboks during the World Cup, commemorate a birthday or share a special throwback Thursday picture, Facebook’s new temporary profile will allow you to share those specific moments and events.
Improved Profile Controls
You’ve always been able to control who can see the information you showcase on your profile, and now we’re making it easier for you to see what others can view by introducing a new customizable space at the top of your profile. You can curate this space— and convey what you want people to know about you— by changing the visibility of the fields that show up here.
Design Improvements to Your Mobile Profile
Your profile picture will now be centred and larger, making you the real star of the show. Facebook has also made changes that will help you learn more about both old and new friends. The new features will be rolled out to a small number of iPhone users in the UK and California, and then to the rest of the world.
