Dad buys ex-wife birthday gifts, receives mixed reactions

Divorces can get quite messy and some couples might even resent each other after their separation. But when kids are involved, most couples have to find a common ground for the sake of the children.

However, for many, this doesn’t include buying nice gifts for their ex-spouses. This gentleman, Billy Flynn, is different. He believes in spoiling his ex-wife for the sake of his children.

“It’s my ex-wife’s birthday today and I got up early and brought flowers and cards and a gift over for the kids to give her and helped them make her breakfast,” he wrote on Facebook.

But of course this didn’t sit well with some people. He was asked why he would go to such an extent for his ex-wife?

“[I'm going to] break it down for you all." He wrote on Facebook. "I'm raising two little men. The example I set for how I treat their mom is going to significantly shape how they see and treat women, and affect their perception of relationships.”

He went on to explain to Independent Journal Review: "I'm not advocating that everyone can or should do what we do for each other to model for the kids. But I believe it is extremely important for parents to show each other respect and care in front of the kids. So even if your ex is a terrible person in your eyes, you need to set it aside and realize your kids love this person. Seeing you mistreat someone they love is traumatic, whether you want to own it or not.”
