Blind University of Pretoria student receives degree with distinctions
Updated | By The Workzone with Mack Rapapali
An inspirational University of
Pretoria student has received his degree with distinctions irrespective of his
disability.
Zak Claasen studied in the
University of Pretoria’s Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences and has
completed a BSc in Genetics with distinction.
Zak had to rely on his screen reader software, descriptions from text books and digital scans as well as print-outs in braille from the University of Pretoria’s Disability unit as he was unable to see all the visual material. To make things a bit easier for Zak, the library had to order his books in an electronic format to allow him to read it through his screen reader.
