How Ellen got through the hardest time of her life
Updated | By Danny Painter
Ellen DeGeneres is one of the most successful women in the world! She's a household name, a multi-millionaire, and an inspiration to the world.
It wasn't always that way, however. Just like all of us, she has had to overcome massive struggle and adversity to become who she is today! In this video of her commencement speech taken in 2009 at Tulane University in America, what she says is as relevant today as it was then.
Another great article: The Rocky Balboa of our time speaks about mental health
After losing her then-girlfriend in a car accident, Ellen speaks of writing a letter to God and how it helped pull her out of the darkness she was experiencing and onto the path that would lead her to today!
"I was living in a basement apartment; I had no money; I had no heat, no air, I had a mattress on the floor and the apartment was infested with fleas. And I was soul-searching, I was like, why is she suddenly gone, and there are fleas here? I don’t understand, there must be a purpose and wouldn’t it be so convenient if we could pick up the phone and call God and ask these questions."
We all go through hard times, we all lose people we love, we all have career ends and beginnings. But, how we deal with those things will have the biggest impact on our lives. Far bigger than the actual thing that happened to us.
