“We have all the materials we need to create clothes if we just rethink the waste."
Toxic waste can harm people, animals, and plants. This is why recycling is so important.
Toxic waste has been implicated in deaths and health problems such as cancers, birth defects, miscarriages, low birth weight, neurological disorders, liver disease, developmental disorders, hypertension, and heart defects. In ecosystems, toxic wastes have caused substantial damage to animal and plant populations.- Britannica
A young female fashion designer, Lara Klawikowski, is using her passion and skill to make a positive impact in the world by reducing waste material.
The designer is designing her outfits using recycled and upcycled materials.
This is uncommon in the fashion industry, where an estimated 90-million tonnes of textile waste goes to landfills around the world.
“As exciting as the fashion industry is, it can be very harmful to the environment," Lara Klawikowski told Beautiful News.
She added: “We’ve become accustomed to a culture of overconsumption and waste."

As a good citizen, the designer saw an opportunity to use her skill to make a positive impact in the world.
She says her womenswear pieces are "mostly made out of recycled and upcycled materials, essentially low-conscious couture". These recycled plastic packets, mielie meal bags, and fabric offcuts are collected from Rewoven – a local textile recycling business.
The South African fashion designer also uses her art to make people appreciate the beauty of nature.
“Using flowers or things that grow in nature in the designs is an immediate way to get people thinking about nature,” she told the publication.
“We have all the materials we need to create clothes if we just rethink the waste,” she concluded.
