Good Morning Angels: Ndlovu Youth Choir founding member blessed with eye operation
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
Ndlovu Youth Choir founding member, Sipho Hlaze blessed by Good Morning Angels and Operation Healing Hands.
BACKGROUND: 28-year old Sipho Hlaze has lived a lifetime of hardship and poverty. He has also known a lifetime of love, support and music. Sipho grew up with his grandmother and describes her as his biggest inspiration. His life took a positive turn 10 years ago when he auditioned for the Ndlovu Youth Choir and was selected as one of its founding members. Sipho still feels the loss of his gran, who sadly passed away two years ago, before she could see him on the international stage of America’s Got Talent.
Ndlovu Youth Choir musical director, Ralf Schmitt is one of his biggest fans, describing Sipho as a magnificent musician both on and off the stage. "Sipho’s contribution to the success of the choir is immense. He has progressed from a singer in the choir to being the assistant musical director. He is responsible for taking some of the rehearsals, managing the studio, engineering recordings, sings and plays the bass guitar in performances ... and makes an invaluable contribution to the choir.”
However, Sipho needs help with an affliction that has been with him since birth … he has a lazy eye, which he says he was teased over for all of his childhood. After an unsuccessful attempt to straighten his eyes 13 years ago, Sipho decided to rise above his self-consciousness and like with so many other struggles in his life, but mind over matter to beat it. The doctors at Operation Healing Hands heard of Sipho’s disability and offered to fix it, once and for all.
