Good Morning Angels: "Mother" of 12 disabled children gets much needed help
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
On Breakfast with Martin Bester, the Angels came together to help Angel-mother, Mpumelelo, as she looks after her 12 very special children.
BACKGROUND: Mpumeleo Sikhosana is a professional nurse from Etwatwa/Daveyton on the East Rand. She worked at an Old Age Home, living her passion by caring for the frail, who needed assistance or could not look after themselves anymore.
She has always had the heart to serve and help those most in need. She became particularly aware of the plight of disabled children, who were left abandoned at hospital. In 2016 she decided to put her concern to action, resigned from her job and dedicated her life to providing a safe haven, love and care for those who need it most: abandoned children with special needs.
“I started the centre because I saw there was a huge need for children with disabilities. Most parents are in denial of their children’s conditions and it is harder for them to take care of them,” she says. Mpumi initially took children into her parents’ home, but soon needed a bigger space. She turned to the municipality, which allocated a dilapidated, abandoned home to her cause, which became the Siyathanda Stimulation Centre.
Today, this modest building is a permanent home to 12 children with special needs, ranging from Cerebral Palsy to autism and other physical and mental challenges. Mpumelelo relies on assistance from the community, volunteers, and donors to keep her home - and very special children - going. That’s why Lauren Oelofsen wrote to Good Morning Angels.

ORIGINAL REQUEST:
Good day Angels,
I recently came across a post on our local community group about a centre in Etwatwa that cares for disabled children. They are a daycare centre for disabled children in the community and home to several abandoned disabled children. They desperately need help; from food to toys, beds, additional rooms/buildings, clothes and nappies. They have lost most of their donors and are struggling.
Siyathanda was founded by a lovely and brave woman Mpumi. Some years ago she left her job as a nurse and decided to start a daycare in her house for disabled children. This is a link to their Facebook page, for more information and contact details:

Thank you for all you do and for your time and consideration in reading this request. I know you must receive many requests, but hope you will be able to assist Siyathanda in some way.
Kind regards,
Lauren Oelofsen
