WATCH: The sad meaning behind 'Hey Ya!' by Outkast

Often it's the songs with the happiest tunes that have the deepest meanings.
When you think of classic early 2000s tunes, a few that come to mind but you would be remiss to exclude the absolute hit that is Outkast's 'Hey Ya' from any kind of best of list.

You can't stop yourself from dancing and singing along to this infectious song with an upbeat, fast-paced tune, and is a seemingly joyful song.
As it turns out, none of us have been paying attention to the lyrics we so happily have been singing along.
TikTok user @elizabethdevasto has been educating the masses by revealing the deeper meanings of songs we might not all have ever considered to be very deep and meaningful.

Arguably one of the best lyrics from 'Hey Ya' is lead singer Andre3000's moment where he says "Lend me some sugar, I am your neighbor".
But it seems like the song lyrics aren't all that fun.
In a series of videos titled 'Songs That Hit Different When You Know What They're Written About' Elizabeth explains that the song is actually about modern relationships.

What Andre3000 is saying is that people tend to stay in a relationship even when they no longer love their partner because they would rather do that than be alone.
That truly puts a different spin on the song.
