VIDEO: Village streets painted red with 2.2-million litres of wine
A nightmare for some is a dream for others...
The occasional glass of wine is enjoyed by many people around the world.

However, there is such a thing as too much wine.
The Portuguese town of São Lourenco do Bairro recently experienced this as a collective, not because they all had drunk too much red wine, but because their streets were flowing with it.
The Levira Distillery unfortunately had two wine tanks that exploded, causing around 2.2-million litres of red wine to run down the only path it could find: the streets.

Onlookers were captivated by what they saw as enough wine to fill an Olympic swimming pool rushed past them.
The local authorities had to issue an environmental alert and help divert the massive amounts of wine to prevent it from contaminating the nearby Certima River. The Anandia Fire Department assisted by diverting the wine river into a field.

Luckily, no one was harmed in this accident although one basement located in a home near the distillery was flooded.
Levira Distillery has since issued an apology:
