Study reveals most hacked passwords for 2023

It's not news that cybercrime, hacking and all kinds of digital scams have become extremely prevalent over the last few years.

From foreign princes asking for financial help to fake Facebook accounts impersonating celebs, most of us have come across some kind of internet scam.
Just like technology has improved, so have the abilities of hackers.

In a new study by business site Dojo, they analysed aggregated data from RockYou2021.
RockYou2021 went and looked at various sources and lists of over six million breached passwords and put it all together. Through this, Dojo managed to investigate the average password length used and other password patterns.

They sorted their findings into 25 categories which included everything from astrology to footballers and were able to determine which category had the most password breaches.
Their key findings were:
- Using all lowercase letters was the most popular password pattern
- More than 1.5million passwords were eight characters or less
- The most common category is terms of endearment
- Over 29% of passwords use 12 characters or less

They also provided a list of important do's and don'ts such as using a longer-than-recommended password and changing your password as soon as you think it may be compromised.
They also recommend not using any personal information or obvious number/letter sequences and not saving your password automatically in your browser.
