Elf On The Shelf: Cute ideas for parents to keep children entertained

Elf On The Shelf is a scout elf who hides (obviously placed by parents) in people's homes to watch over events. 

Once everyone goes to bed, the elf flies back to the North Pole to report to Santa the activities, good and bad, that have taken place throughout the day. 

Before the family wakes up each morning, the elf flies back from the North Pole and hides somewhere in the home. 

By hiding in a new spot around the house each morning, the elf plays an ongoing game of 'hide and seek' with the family. 

Every year, the elf, Junior, visits the McKenzie-Bishop household. Rozanne McKenzie said that Junior reports back to Santa every night - and it is very important for her children to be nice and behave, because he watches and makes notes. The better they behave the better the gifts they will get from Santa. 

Here is some ideas for parents to keep their children entertained until Christmas:

• In the dishwasher.
• Sitting in a vase, with all the flowers scattered around.
• Drawing faces on the eggs in the fridge.
• Staring into the rear-facing camera of the car on the way somewhere.
• Drew a mustache on the family photos.
• In the clothes cupboard, where they've made a mess and mixed up all the clothes.
• Making a mess with the toys.
• Stealing the batteries from the TV remote.
• Sneaking a peak from the top of a lampshade.
• "Abseiling" down from the roof outside to peer in through the window.
• Eating all the cookies in the cookie jar.
• Built a tiny elf-fort in the kitchen using some boxes and a cloth as the roof.
• Elf watching a movie on the laptop.
• The elf stuck inside a balloon.
• The elf toilet-papered the Christmas tree, oh no!
• The elf is outside, camping...
• The elf brought donuts for everyone!
• The elf has a kitchen sponge and some soap and is running a toy car wash...
• Floating on an inflatable in the pool, getting a tan.
• The elf is having a bath in a sink full of marshmallows.
• Everyone's phone and laptop background has been changed to a selfie of the elf!
• The elf has been naughty and is in Elf-jail for the day.
• The other toys have taken the elf hostage & tied the elf up!
• The elf is reading a book, but it's missing a page that needs finding.
• Trying to catch the fish in the fish tank! Naughty!
• The elf painted dad's toenails!
