Bridesmaid asked to spend R15k on wedding

Being part of the wedding party is an honour, but how far are you willing to go for a wedding that isn't even yours?
There is no doubt that weddings have become extremely expensive over the last few years.

While it's still very possible to have an affordable wedding, it generally does mean that the occasion will be quite intimate and small.
If you're looking to go for a major affair, then you need to be willing to splash out a lot of moola.
However, should this be expected of your bridal party?

Many women would agree that bridesmaids should contribute to bachelorette parties/weekends, a gift, and possibly a dress.
As a bridesmaid, how much should you be expected to spend and how much should be paid for by the bride, or couple, if they had asked you to be a part of the ceremony?
One Reddit user recently shared the dilemma she had found herself in after a bride had asked her to be a part of her group of bridesmaids, but she was also asking for a lot more.

Star-Dancer3840 posted that she was thrilled and didn't mind spending any money until she saw the list of requirements.
She would have to pay to get her hair and make-up done, pay to stay in a hotel for three nights, and for her dress.
Finally, she worked out that she would have to spend close to $800 (about R15k) and that was excluding the bachelorette weekend!

In today's economy, most of us can agree that the former bridesmaid probably made the right choice and that ensuring you can pay rent and put food on the table is definitely not something to feel bad about!
