Tourism is a major earner for the Maldives, a tropical island paradise popular with honeymooners and celebrities.
The Maldives reopened its tourist resorts on 15 April 2021 and welcomed its first international flight to bolster the economy.
After a year of lockdown and the coronavirus, the Maldives is planning to launch a "Visit, Vaccinate and Vacation” concept, making it very attractive as a holiday destination.

The aim is to welcome 1.5-million tourists in 2021, implementing a program to vaccinate visitors on arrival. It is called “Vaccine tourism” and Maldives’ minister of tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, says it will allow tourists to "Visit, Vaccinate and Vacation".
