New information about the intense heist attempt in Pretoria
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
An attempted robbery in Pretoria resulted in dramatic footage being captured as armed robbers shot at a vehicle multiple times.
The driver, Leo, fought off an intense and dangerous armoured car heist attempt. He tried to manoeuvre himself and his partner to safety and thanks to his clear thinking and bravery, they’re lucky to be alive!
The driver of the vehicle is a former member of the Police Special Task Force and currently an instructor at the security company, The Edge Shooting Academy, where he works. Over the weekend, a video leaked of an attempted heist being thwarted by hero, Leo Prinsloo. Breakfast with Martin Bester spoke to Managing Director of the Fortis Group, Deon Coetzee.
Deon Coetzee told Martin Bester: “There has been death threats on his life. We have taken Leo out of circulation. These heists are leaked with organised crime. Leo spent 12 years in the police task force as an instructor. The organised crime suspects use high powered vehicles and they are heavily armed."

Deon continues: "On the same day that Leo’s incident happened, another incident happened. There were two cars on either side of Leo. The modus operandi of the criminals are to take the escort vehicle (the van Leo was driving) for them to not protect the cell phones which was in the vehicle in front."

Dashcam footage of the incident shows two men driving in a bulletproof vehicle. Seconds afterwards, bullets can be seen hitting the windows as the two men in the vehicle remain calm and think of their next move - planning for survival.

In the video, one can hear the experienced driver saying: "They're going to shoot. They're going to f****** shoot." He continues by calmly saying: "Phone Robbie, phone Josh. Ask them where they are." Towards the end of the video, he safely stops the vehicle and takes the rifle from his partner in the passenger seat.
