Miss USA crowned as the 2022 Miss Universe

The new Miss Universe was crowned at the New Orleans Memorial Convention Center in New Orleans on Saturday.

On Saturday, Miss USA, R'Bonney Gabriel, was crowned Miss Universe 2022 at the 71st edition of the pageant.  

In her run to winning this massive title, she made history by becoming the first Asian American woman to earn the Miss Texas USA title.

According to News 24, the 28-year-old is a "very passionate" fashion designer who aims to be a transformational leader who can bring change to the world.

"I teach sewing classes to women who have survived human trafficking and domestic violence. And I say that because it is so important to invest in others, invest in our community and use your unique talent to make a difference."

Gabriel was joined on stage by her predecessor, India's Harnaaz Sandhu, who crowned the new Miss Universe. 

Miss Venezuela, Amanda Dudamel, and Miss Dominican Republic, Andreína Martínez, were crowned first and second runners-up, respectively.

Mzansi's Ndavi Nokeri made the top 16 at the 71st edition of Miss Universe. 

Alongside her were Colombia, Spain, Venezuela, India, Curaçao, Trinidad and Tobago, Peru, Canada, Portugal, Laos, Dominican Republic, USA, Australia, Haiti, and Puerto Rico.
